Projects
Partners across the city are working together to reinvent downtown Pittsburgh to have vibrant neighborhoods, connected green spaces, a thriving business district for companies large, small, local, and global, inclusive entertaining, and to be connected to our beautiful rivers and nearby communities.
A major part of this endeavor includes transformative placemaking projects and office-to-residential conversions, which will create public spaces and housing options that enhance the quality of life and boost economic opportunities, making downtown Pittsburgh relevant to all southwestern Pennsylvania and drawing people from across the region and beyond to our vibrant neighborhood.
Bringing people and projects together is at the core of IndexPGH’s efforts – and we are pleased to share project information, updates, and links in one central location, highlighting progress, the Pittsburgh way.

Arts Landing
Nestled on four-acres in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, Arts Landing is set to become a new community-focused civic space that will welcome residents and visitors with a variety of creatively designed areas — there’s something for everyone at Arts Landing.
The Great Lawn is the perfect location for a performance in the park — with one full acre of green space and a bandshell backed by the Allegheny River — we can’t wait to enjoy a summer concert at Arts Landing. The nearby Garden Walk will provide the ideal backdrop for a leisurely stroll along a pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare where 8th Street currently sits. For those looking for a place to rest, the Backyard provides an adaptable space with variety of seating options, picnic tables, and games, along with a flexible space that can be utilized for pop-ups, food trucks, and more!
For visitors looking for something more physically active, look no further than the Play Room and the Flex Zone. Both offer areas for activity, with artfully created play equipment designed for a range of ages, pickleball courts, and a small running track.
With a ground-breaking set for early April 2025, Arts Landing will take shape now through June 2026, when it will be the home of the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival.

Market Square
At the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, Market Square hosts millions of people each year, welcoming residents and visitors to a central civic space with a variety of restaurants and businesses to patron. A modernized Market Square will improve the quality of the space and boost the experience by removing barriers, increasing greenery, reimagining lighting, expanding outdoor dining and activations, and reducing vehicular traffic.
As the anchor of Market Square, a central, architectural open-air pavilion will enhance activations and events throughout all seasons, drawing people into the lively spirit of the square. The Market Street we know and love today will soon be a curb-less pedestrian corridor, extending the connection between Market Square and PPG Plaza, while acting as an access point to the Cultural District.
With construction set to begin in early April 2025, the opening of a modernized Market Square is anticipated for April 2026.

Point State Park
A well-known and recognized feature of downtown Pittsburgh, Point State Park welcomes all who enter our city through the Fort Pitt Tunnel. As a future phase of revitalization, the eastern portion of Point State Park, the area before the underpass walkway, will be transformed into a welcoming gateway to downtown and a park for the neighborhood, with strategic upgrades and amenities concentrated along its perimeter to attract more residential growth. The conceptual design and a more in-depth design phase have been and will continue to be thoughtful so as not to disturb the historic site or native species near the Point.
We will work with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which owns and manages the property, on updates as work progresses, which is set to start sometime after April 2026.

Conversion Projects
Several office-to-residential and mixed-used conversion projects are happening across downtown Pittsburgh, and are positioned to support diverse housing options and economic activity in the coming years. Each project is being managed by an individual or collaboration of developer(s), and many have received local and state government support. While IndexPGH does not plan to report progress on individual projects, we will strive to provide updates and resources as they become available.
